The Deputy Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and Board Member of the Data Protection Commission, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, on 20 February 2026 commissioned two newly acquired vehicles to strengthen the Commission’s regional presence and enhance its compliance and outreach activities across the country.
The vehicles were added to the Commission’s fleet as part of its strategic expansion agenda aimed at decentralizing services and bringing data protection closer to data controllers and data processors throughout Ghana. This initiative is intended to make compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) more accessible, efficient, and convenient for organizations that face challenges in accessing the Commission’s offices in Accra due to distance.
Beyond improving access to the Commission’s services, the vehicles will support a range of regulatory activities within and outside Accra, including compliance inspections, enforcement operations, public awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagements, and training programmes for organizations and businesses. These outreach efforts are expected to deepen understanding of obligations under Act 843 and promote the adoption of appropriate technical and organizational measures to safeguard personal data.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu emphasized the importance of advancing Ghana’s data protection agenda and ensuring that the Commission effectively delivers on its mandate. He stated: “Our goal is to take data protection to a higher level of compliance. We do not want it to be seen merely as a regulatory requirement. It must become an everyday practice within companies, organizations, and among individuals to help protect our personal identity.”
The ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission, Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, as well as management and staff of the Commission, who welcomed the addition of the new vehicles as a significant boost to efforts aimed at expanding the Commission’s presence and services across all sixteen regions of Ghana.
The Data Protection Commission is an independent statutory body established under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) to regulate and ensure the lawful processing of personal information in Ghana. The Commission is mandated to promote compliance with data protection laws, protect the rights of data subjects, and strengthen public trust in Ghana’s growing digital ecosystem.
