Geneva, 23rd March 2020; In line with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU’s) mandate to contribute to the inclusion and empowerment of youth in the digital society as noted in Resolution 198 (Rev. Dubai. 2018) of the Plenipotentiary Conference, and Resolution 76 (Rev. Buenos Aires, 2017) of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), lTU has drafted a youth strategy, which will be presented at the next Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) meeting on 2-5 June 2020.
Youth have the right to achieve full economic, social, and digital inclusion. ICT is a tool through which youth can substantively contribute to, participate in and leverage their social and economic development. Connected to each other like never before, young people want to contribute to their communities, propose innovative solutions, and drive social progress and change.
Involving young people is particularly important to the work of ITU because youth are the natural adopters of technology. Young people are the ones who will inherit the world that technology is now shaping. It is vital that we hear their voices, listen to what they want from technology and ensure that they become part of the solution to the challenges the world is facing.
For this reason, ITU has decided to launch a global online youth consultation, which will give inputs on the main elements of the draft ITU youth strategy and also inform them as they prepare for WTDC-21.

The findings and results of this consultation will be presented at the next TDAG Meeting.
In order to foster the participation of young people, ITU has invited the Data Protection Commission to forward this invitation to youth organizations, networks, and associations in Ghana, particularly those we already work with. This will facilitate geographic representation and engagement related to the Youth Global Online Consultation.
